The game is about touge racing, which relies heavily on drift skills made popular in the western culture during the 2000s by Initial D and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and is divided in both daytime and nighttime. The player can buy a used or new stock car, tune it with aero and engine parts, get sponsorships and challenge other racers in nocturnal illegal gambling touge racing or perform downhill / uphill time attack in daytime. Available cars become more and more powerful from the basic K-car, minitruck, 1600cc compact to the 3000cc sports car. Vehicle list features licensed Japanese and European import cars.
As Kaido President and Speed King are defeated, the black and red Lancer Evolution III is revealed to be the long lost Emotional King : Taiju Kokami, who wanted to make a fresh start as Emotional King. After his defeat, a new team shows up after the great battle : Revival Of Sodom, lead by Zaiga Koshigaya, who appears to have known Kokami for a long time as he was his friend. Even though Zoshigaya is one of the best drivers, he lost to them, so everyone asked if the player can do something about them as the new legendary racer.
The development of the game was supervised by former touge drivers, professional drifters and racers Manabu Orido, and Nobuteru Taniguchi. A lot of attention was given to making it feel like a touge simulator.
There is actually a story in Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Drift 2 which sees you trying to become the best racer in Tokyo. The main game mode is the conquest mode and this basically is your career mode. You get to name your racer, you are given some money and then you have to buy your car and set it up the way you want. You will be racing in different areas trying to take down the boss of each area. It is pretty fun stuff and the terrible translation is more charming and amusing than it is bad. As well as the conquest mode, you do have other game modes like standard races, time trials, battles and so on that you can enjoy as well.
